Claude lets you start with a quick question or hand over a larger piece of work. It can use files, web search, and connected apps to create editable results. Anthropic is bringing chat and Cowork into one Claude, with the new experience rolling out by plan.

Capabilities in practice
Keep a report and its slides together
A report and matching slides can be created in the same conversation, using its existing context. You can edit the document, comment on an individual slide, move elements and share the result through a link that also opens on a phone.
Continue and repeat a delegated task
The combined chat and Cowork experience can continue a task after a laptop is closed and show progress on mobile. A completed report workflow can be scheduled to repeat. This experience is rolling out first to Pro and Max; Docs, Slides and Design remain beta features on paid plans.

Pricing and plans
Pro costs USD 20 billed monthly or USD 200 billed upfront annually, equivalent to about USD 17/month. Max starts at USD 100/month and offers 5x or 20x usage options. Taxes are additional and usage limits apply. API pricing is separate.
Open source and deployment
Claude is a hosted AI assistant. The separate Anthropic Python API SDK uses the MIT licence, which covers the SDK.
Data and privacy
Consumer users control whether chats and coding sessions help improve Claude. When enabled, this data is retained for five years. Team and Enterprise content is not used for model training by default. Connected services have their own data sharing scope.

Yes. The Free tier includes chat, web search, Artifacts, and other features with usage limits.
How is Pro billed?

Can I use Claude on a phone?
Official iOS and Android apps are available; the desktop app is optional for normal chat.
Can I chat in Chinese?
Yes. Claude replies in the language you use. The interface-language list currently does not include Chinese.

Claude Slides can export PowerPoint or PDF on eligible paid plans; the feature is in beta.

Files and results
Accepted documents and images
Upload PDF, DOCX, CSV, TXT, HTML, ODT, RTF, EPUB or JSON; XLSX requires code execution and file creation to be enabled. Images support JPEG, PNG, GIF and WebP.
Different limits for chat, projects and generated files
Chat uploads allow up to 20 files and 500 MB per file. Project files use a 30 MB limit. PDFs up to 100 pages can include visual analysis; 101–1,000-page PDFs use text only. The code-execution file-creation workflow has its own 30 MB upload/download limit.
Download working files
Code execution can create downloadable XLSX spreadsheets, PPTX slides, DOCX documents, PDFs and PNG charts, or save files to Google Drive. This file-creation capability is available across Free and paid plans; Claude Slides is a separate beta experience.
Scripts and file portability
Download generated scripts and files, or save supported files to Google Drive. Use suitable software to continue editing DOCX, XLSX or PPTX outputs.

Open claude.ai or an official desktop or mobile app in a supported location. Describe the task and add the files or connected tools it needs. Review the output, edit it, and approve any actions that require a decision.

Custom remote MCP connectors are available across Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise; Free permits one custom connector. Authorize only the tools a task needs. Connected tools can read data or create, change and delete it, depending on their granted permissions.

Input and output rights
You keep your input rights. Output rights are assigned to you to the extent allowed by law and the service terms; third-party material and dependencies keep their own terms.
Hosted product and generated files
Claude runs as a hosted product. Installing its official client does not deploy the full service on your own server. Generated files and scripts can be used separately where export is supported.

Privacy and organization controls
Control the compute environment
Team and Enterprise owners can enable file creation, control internet access and set allowed domains. MCP connections remain a separate route to external systems, so sandbox network restrictions and connector permissions must be configured separately.
Data handled during use
Using the service can involve account details, prompts, files, generated outputs and device or usage information. Paid services also process billing details; optional app connections bring in the information you authorize.
Closing an account
Account closure and privacy requests can be handled through support@anthropic.com. Retention depends on the processing purpose and applicable exceptions.
Working limits
Keep visual information readable
Non-PDF documents are processed as text, so embedded images are not interpreted. For large PDFs, split the sections that need close review. File generation consumes the same plan allowance as chat and can use more of it than ordinary messages.
Export, migration and alternatives
Export conversations before changing accounts
On Free, Pro and Max, request chat and user-data exports through Settings > Privacy on the web or desktop. The emailed download link lasts 24 hours and requires sign-in. For Team and Enterprise, only the Primary Owner can export organization data.
Personal-account portability
A personal-account export cannot be imported into another personal Claude account. Keep exported conversations and generated files as backups; reconnect external services when moving to a different workspace.
