Anthropic has committed $100 million to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers (FDEs) through Claude Frontier Academy by the end of 2027. It is not an open online course for individuals. Early participants are nominated by partner organizations, need software fundamentals and LLM project experience, and bring a Claude project they will lead on returning. Prior agent-building experience is not required. Read the program announcement.

The goal is to put AI into real operations

Anthropic describes FDEs as people who can move AI from an idea into production. That calls for understanding business processes, choosing a use case, designing a system, handling security review, and helping a team adopt it. Participants work with practitioners on a simulated enterprise deployment, pass a practical assessment, and then enter a 12-week residency to deliver their Claude project at their organization.

This is broader than prompt writing. Enterprise work also needs data connections, access controls, recovery, human approval, evaluations, and operations support. A model that answers a question is not automatically safe to take over a workflow. Delivery needs both technical checks and clear organizational ownership.

Who can participate—and how others can prepare

Early partners include Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley, and Novo Nordisk. The program uses organizational nominations; the announcement does not say that anyone can apply directly. Other teams can use its requirements as a skills checklist: build evaluable LLM tools, understand enterprise data boundaries, explain trade-offs to nontechnical colleagues, and document a project from pilot to delivery.

How employers can measure outcomes

  1. Choose a bounded business project and define baselines for speed, quality, risk, and adoption.
  2. Assess requirements, prototypes, permissions, security review, testing, and handoff in a simulated case.
  3. Assign a sponsor, data access, users, budget, and acceptance criteria to the post-training project.
  4. Measure reusable capability and business results, not just attendance or model-call volume.

The announcement lists its investment, target, and initial partners, but does not present the Academy as an open individual course.
