JetBrains Junie
CodingJunie combines a coding agent with planning, model choice and JetBrains development workflows. Use the CLI, supported IDE integration or repository automation to work on scoped code changes.
A desktop route to downloading and running local language models, chatting with documents and serving a local API. Free for personal and work use; hardware requirements, model licenses and optional cloud services should be evaluated separately.
LM Studio offers an approachable desktop workflow for running supported language models on a personal computer. It combines model discovery, downloading, chat and developer access, making it useful for people who want to experiment locally without assembling an inference stack from separate command-line components. A document can also become the starting point for a local question-and-answer session.
The current website promotes LM Studio Bionic as part of the product family. This guide focuses on the local model, document and API functions documented under LM Studio's app guides. Optional cloud and agent services should be checked on their own terms; they are not automatically included in the statement that the local application is free.

The official announcement makes the application free for both home and work use, removing the former requirement to seek a separate commercial license for ordinary workplace use. The app terms still apply; free availability should not be confused with a claim that the whole desktop product is open source.

You supply the memory, storage, electricity and compute for local inference. Individual models have their own licenses, while optional hosted services and organizational features can have separate charges. A local setup avoids some per-request cloud costs but does not eliminate the resources needed to run a model.
Yes, under the current application terms described in the official free-for-work announcement.
No. Application availability and source-code licensing are different questions.
Core local functions can work offline after the necessary downloads.
No. Memory, architecture and model size matter.
No. Review the license for the actual model and variant.
Yes, through the documented server and API routes.

LM Studio provides macOS, Windows and Linux routes, with hardware and architecture support documented separately. After the required models and runtimes are downloaded, local chat, local document processing and the local server can operate without an internet connection.
Model search, downloads, runtime updates and app updates require connectivity. If the goal is an offline workflow, prepare the required files first and check every connected tool as well. A local model does not make an external search service or another application's cloud storage local.
The offline guide states that local model chat and document processing stay on the device. Confirm that the selected workflow is local and review any MCP tool or connected application that may independently send information elsewhere.
Keep local model endpoints limited to intended clients. Exposing a service to a wider network changes the access boundary and requires a deliberate security setup. For shared computers, protect the model chat history and source documents through normal user-account and storage controls.
